Preparing for Lakshmi Puja
- First, clean your house thoroughly in the morning.
- After bathing, light a lamp in the home temple.
- Before performing the evening puja, purify the entire house by sprinkling Ganga water.
- Place a platform and spread a red cloth on it.
- Place a handful of wheat in the center of the cloth, and place a pot filled with water on top of the wheat.
- Now place a coin, betel nut, marigold flower, and rice grains inside the pot.
- Also, place five mango leaves and Ashoka leaves on the pot. Cover the pot with a small plate and place rice on top.
- Place the idols of Goddess Lakshmi and Lord Ganesha on a plate and bathe them with a mixture of milk, yogurt, honey, basil, and Ganga water.
- After this, bathe them with clean water and place them on a platform. (Draw a square with turmeric in the space left on the platform next to the pot and place the idol of Goddess Lakshmi on it.) Make sure that the idol of Lord Ganesha is placed to the right of Goddess Lakshmi.
- Apply a tilak to the idols of Lakshmi and Ganesha. Then, adorn Lakshmi and Ganesha with garlands and offer flowers and rice grains.
- After this, keep toys, sticks, sweets, fruits, money, and gold ornaments in front of Lakshmi Ganesh ji.
- After this, keep turmeric kumkum. And Akshat in a plate and also light a lamp. (Take two big lamps and fill one with ghee and the other with oil. Place one at the feet of the idols and the other on the right side of the pedestal. Apart from this, keep a small lamp near Ganesha too.)
- After this, meditate on Goddess Lakshmi with flowers and rice in your hand.
- After this, the entire family should listen to the story of Lord Ganesha and Goddess Lakshmi together and then perform the aarti of Goddess Lakshmi.
